Frequently Asked Questions
Apex

+ Why does the Apex need a battery?

The battery is required to power the active circuitry inside of the stylus.

+ What kind of battery does the Apex use?

The Apex uses a standard AAA battery.

+ Will the Apex work with the Notes app on my iOS device?

No. The “Notes” app is a standard on iOS devices which has been designed for typing only and cannot be used for handwritten notes.

+ What apps does the Apex work on?

The Apex is not limited to one specific app and will work with any touch app on your iPad. For a list of our recommended note taking apps, please visit this link.

+ Does the Apex work with screen protectors?

When you are using the Apex on a device that has a screen protector, it is possible you will see a decrease in performance as screen protectors add an extra layer that interferes with the conductivity of the stylus. Depending on the thickness of the screen protector, you may be required to apply more pressure when writing and as a result, you may see some skipping since the iPad will not be able to read the stylus as well.

The iPad will be able to more easily detect the touch of your finger or a larger tipped passive stylus through the screen protector since either of those would have a larger surface area.

+ Does the Apex have Bluetooth?

The Apex does not require Bluetooth or for any special software to be installed prior to use. You simply pick up the stylus, turn it on, and begin using it on your favorite apps.

+ Is the Apex pressure sensitive?

The Apex was not designed with a built-in pressure sensing feature, but rather was designed to function like a traditional pen on paper. You can change the size of the lines from thick to thin within the handwriting app you are using.

+ Does the Apex have palm rejection or wrist protection?

The Apex does not have a built-in palm rejection or wrist protection feature. This particular feature is typically built into the software of the app, so it can be enabled and disabled within the settings tab on the app itself.

+ What devices does the Apex work on?

The Apex was designed to work on the iPad 2/3/4, iPad Air, and iPad Mini. It also works on several popular Android devices. Since all touchscreen inputs are different, you will see a difference in performance on tablets and touchscreens that are not an iPad.

If you do not plan to use the Apex on an iPad or popular Android device, we would recommend trying a passive styluses from our TruGlide Fiber Stylus line.

+ Where can I get replacement nibs for my Apex?

Replacement nibs are available through our website. To place an order for the replacement nibs, please visit this link.

+ How do I replace the nib on my Apex?

When you are ready to replace the nib, please first make sure the device is off. You can then squeeze the rubber nib gently and twist it off slowly. Be careful not to touch the metal prong with your fingers when it is exposed, as this could cause damage to the circuitry.

To put a new nib on, squeeze the rubber nib gently and twist it on slowly until it is securely seated over the metal prong.

+ Why do I see a jagged line when writing diagonally?

The jagged lines that you are seeing when writing or drawing on a diagonal is actually not a malfunction of the stylus. This happens to be a case where the hardware (stylus) has evolved further than the software (app). This will be especially noticeable when you are writing or drawing slowly.

The jagged line that occurs when slowly drawing diagonal lines on touchscreens is common in all active styluses currently on the market. This is because touchscreens are laid out in a grid, and since our fine point stylus is smaller than the grid squares, the software needs to calculate the position of the stylus correctly.

When writing straight lines up, down, and across, the software correctly displays the position of the stylus. When making diagonal lines at normal drawing speeds, the software calculates the position and “smooths” the movement of the stylus along the diagonal of the grid into a smooth line.

However, if you slowly draw diagonal lines across the grid, the software traces along the boxy grid lines and delivers a jagged line as the output.

Some note-taking applications have already started the integration of smoothing algorithms that are designed to straighten the diagonal lines when drawing slowly. As the hardware and software continue to mature, this should no longer be noticeable.

+ Why doesn’t the Apex work as well on my iPhone?

The Apex was specifically designed for use with iPads. Apple’s touchscreen interface varies from device to device, so you may see a difference in response on your iPhone in comparison to your iPad.

+ Why is there a lag time on my iPad 2?

The iPad 2 has a somewhat slower processor than the iPad 3/4 and iPad Air, so if you are running an app that needs a fast processor, you will see a lag time when using any stylus. This lag time is not present with the faster processors on the newer iPad models.

+ My Apex doesn't seem to be working correctly. What should I do?

If your Apex is skipping, jumping, or not registering on your screen, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Confirm the rubber nib is firmly seated over the metal prong on the stylus. If the nib is even a little loose, it will cause jumping or skipping when writing. It is also important that your fingers do not come in contact with the metal prong when exposed, as this could cause damage to the circuitry.

2. Clean your screen. We have found that screens with a buildup of oil or smudges can often times cause jumping or skipping.

3. Verify that the battery has been placed positive side down, and replace the battery when necessary. It is also important to verify that the spring is seated in the cap of the stylus, and has not mistakenly fallen down below the battery while in-transit to you.

4. Very importantly, because of the active circuitry inside of the stylus, it will require the user to hold the stylus in the grip zone, which is the textured area below the first silver ring toward the tip of the stylus. This is the area on the pen that will detect your touch, so if the stylus is being held above this line, you will notice inconsistencies when in use. Please ensure that the stylus is being held in the correct location.

If problems persist, please contact us and we will be glad to assist you further.

TruGlide

+ What touchscreens does the TruGlide work on?

All of our styluses featuring the TruGlide technology (fiber conductive tip) have been designed to work with any capacitive touchscreen, including the iPad, iPhone, Android, Nook, Kindle, and more.

+ Will the TruGlide work on all versions of the iPad and iPhone?

Yes. The TruGlide is compatible with any capacitive touchscreen, including the iPad, iPhone, Android, Nook, Kindle, and more.

+ Does the TruGlide work with screen protectors?

Depending on the thickness of the screen protector, you may see a decrease in the functionality of the stylus. This would be true of any stylus on the market since screen protectors add an extra layer between the stylus and your touchscreen that could interfere with the conductivity of the stylus.

+ Can the TruGlide Stylus be used in any writing or drawing application?

Yes. The TruGlide functions even better and more precisely than your finger when writing or drawing on your touchscreen.

+ Do you sell replacement tips for the TruGlide?

We offer a one-year limited warranty on all of our products and will be glad to assist you with any defects that may occur on your stylus. Since the TruGlide’s conductive fiber tip is more durable than rubber, we do not find it necessary to offer replacement tips for most products.

+ Will the TruGlide tip scratch my screen?

No. The TruGlide is constructed of patented conductive microfibers that feel like silk and are designed to glide across your screen, not scratch it. In fact, one strand is 10x finer than silk and 100x smaller than a fine strand of cotton fiber.

+ Why is TruGlide the best?

Relative to a rubber tipped stylus, the TruGlide tip is much firmer, mimicking a fingertip, but with greater accuracy, needing less resistance on a touchscreen. The conductive fiber tip is designed to glide across the screen, without the skipping that takes place with a rubber tip. The woven fiber is also 10 times more durable than the rubber tip, lasting through lots of regular use.

+ What pen refills do I use for the TruGlide Duo Stylus Pen?

The TruGlide Duo Stylus Pen utilizes high quality ball point pen refills, such as Parker. These pen refills can be purchased at most office supply stores.

+ Can I wash the fiber tip on my TruGlide with soap and water?

No. We do not recommend washing the fiber tip, as this will decrease the life of your stylus and may cause the tip to lose its functionality.

+ How can I clean the fiber tip on my TruGlide?

We recommend cleaning your stylus by gently brushing off the tip with a microfiber cleaning cloth to remove any dirt or residue. Check out our Smartie Microfiber Cloths, which are made of high quality microfiber that is designed to pick up 99.9% of bacteria, dirt and germs off surfaces.

+ Is the Artist Paintbrush Tip made with animal hair?

No. The tip is not made with hair of any kind, including animal or human hair.

+ My TruGlide doesn't seem to be working correctly. What should I do?

One of the main reasons why your TruGlide may have stopped functioning is if the fiber tip got wet or was somehow exposed to moisture. Because the tip is conductive, there is a metal component to the fiber (which will not scratch your screen), so when exposed to any moisture it will cause the tip to lose its function.

Another reason why it may lose functionality is if your tablet screen and/or the tip of the stylus is dirty. We would recommend keeping both the tip of your stylus and tablet screen clean for maximum responsiveness from the stylus. You can clean off the tip of your stylus by gently brushing off the fiber tip with a microfiber cleaning cloth.

The other reason this could happen is if there is a tear or hole in the fiber material. The conductive fiber is very durable but can still tear if rubbed up against Velcro or something sharp, such as keys.

If problems persist, please contact us and we will be glad to assist you further.

+ How do I use the Smartie?

First, use the plush side of the Smartie to clean to dirt and smudges from your screen. Wipe in a circular motion until all debris has disappeared. Next, use the silky side to polish your screen back to its original shine using the same circular motion.

+ What makes the Smartie antibacterial?

The combination of high quality microfiber and the right knitting process allow the microfiber cloths to pick up 99.9% of bacteria, dirt and germs off surfaces. Microfiber consists of backwards triangular shapes that attract and trap the dirt, dust and bacteria, making for a safe and effective cleaning process.

+ Do I need to use a liquid cleaner with the Smartie?

No. In fact, most manufacturers do not recommend using liquid cleaners with your devices. The Smartie is designed to safely and effectively clean your touchscreens without the use of harmful alcohol or ammonia-based cleaners or wipes. It features a plush side to pick up the dirt, oil, and smudges from your screens and lenses and a silky side to polish them. + How do I clean the sticky pad on my 360 Tablet Kickstand?

To clean the kickstand, you can simply use a wet and lint-free wipe or cloth to remove dirt and dust from the sticky pad. You can also clean it by running a little bit of water on the sticky pad and gently rubbing it clean with your finger.

We do not recommend using soap or any solvents, as this will cause the sticky pad to no longer stick to your tablet.

+ My 360 Tablet Kickstand doesn't seem to be sticking to my tablet very well. What should I do?

Adhesiveness of the kickstand may be weakened when used on textured tablets, or leather or silicone cases. It is also important to clean the kickstand to ensure there is no dirt or dust on the sticky pad.

Reeljuice

+ What mobile devices can I use with Reeljuice?

Reeljuice comes with both micro USB and Apple certified Lightning connectors which are compatible with Android and newer iOS devices. If your mobile device has either of these inputs, Reeljuice will work.

If your mobile device has a different type of input, you can most likely find a micro USB adapter for the input you need through a third-party website.

Reeljuice 3X will take approximately 2.5 hours to charge using a 10 Watt input like the 10 Watt Rapid Wall Charging Module and approximately 5 hours to charge using a 5 Watt input.

Reeljuice 5X will take approximately 4 hours to charge using a 10 Watt input like the 10 Watt Rapid Wall Charging Module and approximately 8 hours to charge using a 5 Watt input.

+ How long will it take for Reeljuice to charge my mobile device?

The charging speed of each mobile device is based on the rate of charge the manufacturer will allow into the mobile device’s battery, and each mobile device is different. For example, the iPhone 6 includes a 5 Watt charger in the box, allowing a charging rate of around 1 Amp. However, Apple actually allows you to use a maximum charging rate of 2.1 Amp, which is faster.

Reeljuice's max charging rate is also 2.1 Amp, which is typically the fastest charging rate allowed by mobile device developers.

+ How much of a charge will my mobile device achieve with Reeljuice?

This will vary depending on the mAh of battery capacity that your mobile device holds, as well as which Reeljuice model you have selected.

Based on an iPhone 5 which has a battery capacity of around 1,500 mAH, a fully charged Reeljuice 3X will fully recharge an iPhone 5 up to three times and a Reeljuice 5X will fully recharge an iPhone 5 up to five times.

For a quick comparison, here is a list of additional popular mobile devices and the mAh for those mobile devices.

iPhone 5: 1,500 mAh

iPhone 6 Plus: 2,750 mAh
iPad Mini: 6,471 mAh
iPad Air: 8,837 mAh
LG G4: 3,000 mAh
Nexus 6P: 3,450 mAh
Samsung Galaxy Note 5: 3,000 mAh
Samsung Galaxy S6: 2,565 mAh
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3: 4,000 mAh
Samsung Galaxy 10.1: 7,000 mAh

+ Does Reeljuice offer pass-through charging?

Yes, pass-through charging is a great feature of Reeljuice. When you plug-in your Reeljuice and mobile device at the same time, you will actually be recharging both the power bank and your mobile device.

+ How does pass-through charging work on Reeljuice?

When you plug-in your Reeljuice and mobile device at the same time, your mobile device will automatically be charged first. Once your mobile device has been full recharged, the power supply will bounce back to Reeljuice and begin charging the power bank.

+ What is the recharge cycle for the lithium batteries in Reeljuice?

We are using the world's leading lithium ion battery suppliers out of Japan because we want the best batteries possible to power Reeljuice. These batteries are rated to maintain 80% of their original capacity after more than 500 cycles, which is very good to compared to most battery packs which are designed to last around 100 cycles.

+ Are the battery cells used in Reeljuice replaceable?

Safety is a big concern when replacing batteries, and therefore, the cells in Reeljuice cannot be replaced. Opening Reeljuice will void the one-year limited warranty.

+ What voltage range can Reeljuice handle from the wall?

The input is full universal AC input voltage range from 90 to 264V AC.

+ Is there a way to store the Lightning adapter for Reeljuice so that I don’t lose it?

There is a socket in the battery pack where you can store the lightning adapter when it is not in use. You can also leave it attached to the micro USB connector, and it will stay snug in the compartment without being lost.

+ Can I charge an older iPhone model using the 30-pin connector with Reeljuice?

Reeljuice has a micro USB connector, with a micro USB to lightning adapter included. If you have a device that uses a 30-pin connecter then you can certainly get an adapter for that, as well.

+ Does Reeljuice come pre-charged?

Though Reeljuice does come pre-charged, new battery compliance regulations prevent it from being allowed to be shipped 100% fully charged. Therefore, every Reeljuice will be partially charged before being packaged and shipped so that users may still use it straight out of the box.

+ Why has my mobile device only gained 1% of battery after charging with Reeljuice for a long time?

Many mobile device manufacturers have set a limit as to how quickly your smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device will accept a charge once it has reached 80% to 85% of available battery.

This feature has been put into place by the mobile device manufacturers directly to simply slow down the charging speed at a certain point so the battery inside of the mobile device is not damaged if it is accepting a charge too quickly. This is not a limitation of Reeljuice, but rather a limitation that has been set on the mobile device itself by the manufacturer.

In addition, if you have multiple apps or an app that requires a high level of battery power running on your mobile device while it is using Reeljuice, the battery power on your mobile device will deplete at the same level that Reeljuice is charging the mobile device. Think of it like running water into a sink with the drain open; you have to close the drain in order to fill the sink with water. If you have too many apps open, the battery on your device will continue to drain while Reeljuice is charging it, resulting in a static battery level.

+ Why does the Lightning adapter not fit on my Reeljuice’s micro USB connector?

If the included Lightning adapter that shipped with your Reeljuice does not seem to fit on the micro USB connector, please check to make sure it is facing the correct way.

If you continue to have a problem with the Lightning adapter, please contact us and we will be glad to assist you further.

+ Why am I already down to one blue LED after charging my device?

The battery status indicators have to do with the way the charging indicators are designed. You will see that when the fourth LED lights up, it is indicating that the battery capacity is between 88% - 100%.

The reason for this is that once the battery reaches the final charging stage and is near capacity, it begins to charge at a reduced rate. This is a safety feature to protect the battery from overcharging.

Think of it like filling up a water balloon; when it’s about 90% full, you want to slow the water flow down so that the balloon doesn’t break.

+ My Reeljuice does not seem to be working correctly. What should I do?

Please read through our FAQs to ensure there is not a simple fix for any concerns you may have.

You can also try resetting your Reeljuice to restore the device to its original factory software settings. Using a small paper clip or pin, simply press down on the reset button and hold for 3-5 seconds.
